R+D Project of HSLCP Girders - structural laboratory tests

2014 április 14.

The present third interim report includes the complementary test results recommended in the basis of earlier concrete composition test and are important for durability issues.

The BME (Budapest Technical University) Civil Engineering Faculty Construction Materials and Engineering Geology Department realized detailed chloride migration, water tightness and frost resistance tests at the recommended concrete mixture compositions.

The test specimens were submitted to tests relating to fresh concrete properties, pressure- , bending- and tensile strength.
At the frost resistance tests, the frost- and melting salt resistance were tested in different storing conditions. Frost abrading resistance test was also realized.

The bond of reinforcement, prestressing strands and wires in the different composition lightweight concrete was tested by the BME (Budapest Technical University) Civil Engineering Faculty Bridges and Structures Department in their laboratory.
They prepared special formwork for the test specimens to be able reproduce simultaneously two test specimens.

The test results of „Zwick/Roell Z 400” type tensile machine were recorded by computer connected and the force displacements were presented on variable limit value diagrams according to the load increase realized.

The bond of prestressing strands and wires in lightweight concrete was tested after both 1 and 2 days (together with rupture and splitting resistance tests) in order to determine the earliest time for prestressing the prefabricated r.c. beams.

The durability and bond tests were realized on lightweight concrete test specimens made with two types of aggregate material of bulb clay gravel (Liapor HD 7N and Liapor 9).

At the pull-out tests the strength and adhesion parameters of test specimens made with aggregate material of blast furnace were tested, too

For comparison, the tests realized on different composition lightweight concrete test specimen were also realized on normal weight concrete test specimens-

UVATERV Ltd. realized pre-calculations for a bridge structure of 37 m span, 9,4 m carriage way width, made from prefabricated prestressed lightweight concrete bridge beams. Stress and deformation parameters were examined considering the strength factors obtained by different aggregate compositions as well as considering the data indicated in the “Design Guidelines” in progress.
