M7 MOTORWAY SECTION BETWEEN BUDAPEST AND BALATONALIGA

The first motorway of the country links the lake Balaton with the capital city of Hungary. In accordance with the development of Hungarian motorization, it was necessary to relieve the main road No. 7 carrying the major part of the traffic of Transdanubia of the intense truck traffic on weekdays, and of the tourist traffic on weekends, especially in summer. The motorway is a part of the European road network (E71).

The motorway was built in sections, and in several phases within one section. Started from Budapest, the designs of the left side sections were prepared first (a limited access road of two traffic lanes was constructed to Zamárdi), followed by the sections of the right side.Total width of the 2x2 lane motorway is 35.50 m up to Szabadbattyán locality, allowing a long-term widening to 2x3 lanes. The M8 motorway will start from this area and go west. Total width of the following section is 28.0 m. Pavement of the motorway is made of basalt concrete. The bridges are individual designs, mostly with cast-in-place r.c. structures.

Following the putting into operation, several development and renewal works had to be planned (e.g petrol stations, service areas at interchanges, reconstruction of particular sections of the concrete pavement with asphalt pavement etc.). All these works are already realized.
